Biography

“We have been swept away by this project” Indietrack

“A very talented musicianand composer who implicitly understood what was needed for the film” Johnny Burke, (Emmy, Grierson, Banff, BIFA awards)

"David is not only an excellent composer but a wonderful collaborator. He takes on board the demands and complexity of a film's narrative and brings great sensitivity, freshness and nuance to the table in his work. Plus he's very willing, easy to work with and fast. Book him while you can!” Paul Dosaj, (BAFTA, RTS, Grierson and Broadcast Awards)

After a global concert career spanning 20 years as a classical violinist, David Chivers made a radical move into rock and electronics in 2020, when he formed the band Aéronèf with his wife Violaine. In 2021 they released several singles to critical acclaim, and David also released his solo single Voltaïque. Having learned to engineer and produce in their home studio, David was naturally drawn to writing music for film and got his first break in 2022, writing an extensive film score for a Channel 4 documentary about journalist Jon Snow. In summer 2023 he was asked to score a short for Frontline FGM, a NGO fighting Female Genital Mutilation in Africa.

David has played in most of the major concert halls of Europe, the US, south America and the Far East, collaborating with major artists such as John Elliot Gardiner, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Nathalie Dessay, Phillip Jarrousky, Frederic Chiu, Claire Gould and Jean-Guillen Queyras. He landed a position as principal first violin at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in 2010, a job he held for two years before his passion for early music led him to form his own band, Ensemble Continuum. He has collected several awards over the years including the Jeunes Talents competition in Paris, the Maurice Warshaw Prize, and the International Croydon Concerto Competiton, which led to sold out performances of the Elgar and Brahms concertos in London. David was signed to Believe Digital in 2022.

His EP Circular Nomads, exploring concepts of fleeting timelessness, is a cinematic mix of piano neo-classical vibes and electronica. It is currently under a periodic 2 week release schedule and has already gained critical acclaim.

David was born in Paris in 1977 to French-American parents and grew up in London. He studied with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and was awarded a BMus degree with distinction. He later formed a violin-guitar duo with his dad Dana - together they recorded 3 albums and toured extensively. Alongside his classical heroes Bach, Elgar and Beethoven, the art of Radiohead has been a major influence on his life and music. David lives in Brittany, France, with his son and wife Violaine.
